Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: “Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.” – Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) 1213
Baptism is the foundational sacrament of Christian life and for membership in God’s Church. In Baptism, a person receives the Holy Spirit and is an anointed new Christian with a threefold ministry as priest, prophet, and king. Baptism is the first of three sacraments of initiation. All of which lead to a more abundant catholic life. As good parents you care for the physical and emotional needs of your child, and as Christian parents you will care for the spiritual needs of your son or daughter by presenting your child for Baptism.
As a parent you are your child’s first teacher. Begin to pray with your child, even before baptism.
Heavenly Father,
In your love you have called us to know you, led us to trust you, and bound our life with yours. Surround this child with your love, protect it from evil. Fill it with the holy spirit and receive it into the family of your church, that it may walk with us in the way of Christ, and grow in the knowledge of your love.
