Lector

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

This ministry proclaims God’s Holy Word during Mass. The one who proclaims has a love of scripture and is prepared to proclaim the Word with enthusiasm and conviction.

Musicians

“He who sings prays twice!” St Augustine

“The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for this preeminence is that, as sacred song closely bound to the text, it forms a necessary or integral part of the solemn liturgy.” Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy (112)

Choirs are the keepers of this treasure of sacred music. We are so blessed at St. Bernadette Parish to have such dedicated ministers. Our choirs and instrumentalists truly understand the difference between prayer and performance. These unique individuals come together each week to becoming one voice in praising and honoring our Lord.

Sacristans

Have you ever wondered who prepares the credence table on the altar or the offertory table in the back of the church? We have a team of amazing people who perform this liturgical ministry behind the scenes. The Sacristans are the ministers who make sure things are in place. Before every Mass, a Sacristan prepares the Tabernacle key, vessels, credence, and offertory tables. They double check the placement of the Lectionary, the Roman Missal, and the Book of the Gospels. Without their invaluable service, liturgy wouldn’t be as seamless as it appears!

Altar Servers

This ministry is an introduction to all the liturgical ministries. Open to those girls and boys who have received their First Holy communion. Altar serving engages a young person’s involvement through service with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and the joy of serving their parish family. Altar Servers assist Father in the celebration of the Mass. This ministry requires a basic understanding of the Mass and the common prayers included within the Mass.
