Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

My Dear St. Bernadette Family,

Growing healthy human relationships is demanding, requiring a great deal of give-and-take, and calling for openness to self and other. God’s embrace and blessing of each of us fosters these healthy human relationships. We experience God’s embrace and blessing, for example, during prayer, when we forgive another, or as we delight in another’s goodness. Growing in life-giving divine and faithful human relationships is the concrete expression of our accepting the kingdom of God “like a child.”

We can only love if we have been loved and if we know what love is all about. The most concrete expression of this we celebrate as the Sacrament of Marriage. Children blessed with the stability in their lives of truly loving parents, learn to love and thus come to know God, who is love.

Unfortunately, because of sin, this home experience is often not the case for our children nor adults. This does not mean they can never come to appreciate fully the love of God nor be able themselves to experience this love with another. Here, the ministry of the church (you and I) is to offer a concrete experience of unconditional love. None of us is perfect in this, but we give it our best knowing God and the other are depending on us. Choose to love!

With love,

Fr. Tom
