Evening Prayer by Boston Public Library, L. Prang &Co. (publisher) Date issued: 1861-1897, Public domain.

My Dear St. Bernadette Family,

Today we have the other teaching of the “Lord’s Prayer.”  Matthew’s version leads to a teaching about forgiving while Luke shows Jesus speaking about “asking.”

Both are in answer to the request to teach about prayer.   So, prayer helps us figure out what we want and leads us to respond with our life choices.  I’d say this is important.  How many people don’t know what they want and spend a lifetime looking in all the wrong places and how many don’t make the connection between faith and life.  There are many other lessons here, such as Jesus’ encouragement to trust in our loving Father’s knowing and providing what we need.

This is a good week to take a look at our prayer life.  Why do you pray?  How do you pray?  Is your prayer life evolving, growing or more stagnant.  Do you have a balance between meditation, Scripture, formal, informal and Sacramental prayer?  Is there a new way of prayer that might be helpful for you? Do you truly “raise your mind and heart to God” which is the very definition of prayer?

While you are at it, please keep me in your prayers. I would appreciate that.

With love,

Fr. Tom
