Fourth Sunday of Advent

My Dear St. Bernadette Family,

“Let the Lord enter” is our Responsorial Acclamation today. God comes, knocks at our door, wishes to enter our world, our lives and our hearts. Although at Christmas we celebrate that God has already entered our world, there is still the question of whether we will allow God to enter our lives and our heart.

Joseph and Mary stand as examples for us of an openness to God’s entry into our lives. Their lives were dramatically changed because they said “yes” to God’s invitation. Sometime we prefer to not change and accept the responsibility God wishes to entrust to us. Saying “yes” is to take responsibility for the unfolding of God’s plan of entry into our lives, community and world. Each of us are faced with that same opportunity. Will we be instruments of God’s dwelling among us or will we choose ourselves instead?

Christmas is not just a time for celebration, but also a time for decision. He is standing at our door, knocking and waiting patiently for us to answer.

With love,

Fr. Tom
