Ascension of our Lord

My Dear St. Bernadette Family,

“You are witnesses of these things” Jesus told his apostles immediately before ascending to heaven.  Are you clear on what you are sent to witness, the gospel you are called to live and proclaim?

“These things Jesus lists are: Christ would suffer, Christ would rise from the dead, repentance would be preached in his name to all nations.  These three are the final teachings of Christ to them and to us.  Besides this instruction, we are commissioned by Christ to go and do.

The Ascension is linked necessarily to all that went before and to all that will be.  Immediately, we pray “Come Holy Spirit” and ponder our need for God’s help.   I believe this prayer for the Holy Spirit should be a regular part of our life.  We should be living in that uncomfortable area where we are not so self-confident but realize our need for God’s help and thus the prayer for the Holy Spirit.

If we are not praying desperately for the Holy Spirit to come, perhaps we are a little too confident or not pushing ourselves enough to do what we are sent to do by Christ.

With Love,

Fr. Tom.
