4th Sunday of Easter

My Dear St. Bernadette Family,

Our very brief gospel reading on this “Good Shepherd” Sunday. Its focus is on our knowing the voice of the Good Shepherd and following. During Lent we focused on hearing that voice. There are so many voices speaking to us these days. With social media and mass media we are bombarded with voices trying to convince us of their ways or to follow them.

In all this noise, it is difficult to hear our Shepherd’s voice clearly, let alone follow Him. This is why we seek a very close relationship with Christ. Through prayer, Scripture and the Sacraments we sharpen our ability to distinguish His voice from the others. Through fasting and almsgiving, we open our hearts and heads to make the decision to follow.

He will lead us to that green pasture we seek. The other voices will lead us to who-knowswhere and ultimately abandon us to the wolves.

With love,

Fr. Tom
