3rd Sunday of Easter

My Dear St. Bernadette Family,

If you were to reflect on which passage in all the resurrection stories were the most moving, today’s gospel would certainly be high on the list. Jesus’ tender reaching out and ministering to Peter help not only his healing, but ours as well.

This continues to be a reflection on last Sunday’s theme of God’s Mercy. Jesus takes the initiative to help Peter deal not only with his grief, but with his guilt as well. “Do you love me more than these?” is His question to Peter. Three times he repeats, corresponding to the three denials at the time of Jesus’ arrest. We see that the strength of Peter becomes not his own, but the power of God’s mercy in his life.

So too for us, none of us is perfect or without sin, and this can be our strength. The knowledge of God’s mercy and forgiveness is a great gift to us that strengthens us to be able to serve the Lord. This is the heart of the Good News we preach and we live in this Easter season.

With Love,
Fr. Tom.
