2nd Sunday of Advent

My Dear St. Bernadette Family,

On the Second Sunday of Advent we always hear John the Baptist calling us to repent. Clearly, if we are to journey to God or prepare for Christ’s coming, we must make some changes. Repentance is that awareness of the need to make some changes and the desire to do so.

John tells us that the evidence of repentance is to be found in “good fruit.” This good fruit is found in deeds such as the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. This holiday season, people seem to instinctively know this. Many charities are busy and people are generous. Perhaps He is closer than we think.

Advent is not really about a brief time of preparation, but changes in our life and in our world that allow His light to shine. Those good deeds must become a part of our everyday lives and the fruit will be a “culture of life.”

We pray for our world, country, church and family that our good fruits will abound!

With love,

Fr. Tom
