27th Sunday in Ordinary Time

My Dear St. Bernadette Family,

In brief, Jesus tells us in today’s gospel, do what you are supposed to do. We are to approach serving God, in the various ways we do, as our duty. We should not seek praise nor think we are to get special favors from God for doing so. Rather, service is an opportunity to give thanks to God for our many blessings.

Paul tells us today that we should be bold in our service and proclamation of the gospel. We are empowered by the Holy Spirit. Again, thanks be to God. Another word for servant is steward. A steward coordinates between resources and work to be done. A good steward takes what God gives and uses it according to God’s purpose. Stewardship is a wonderful way of thinking of ourselves in relationship with the goods of the earth, our own personal possessions, our time, talent and treasure.

When the apostles approached Jesus and asked “Increase our faith” they were really asking for an increase in gratitude for God’s many bless-ings and the wisdom to use them according to God’s will. Thus, they would be living their faith.

With Love
Fr. Tom
