24th Sunday in Ordinary Time

My Dear St. Bernadette Family,

We have three parables in today’s gospel reading. The first two help us focus, on the third, on the “finding” of the son who was lost and the great joy of the Father in having his son back at home.

Jesus is telling us that God is like this father, always looking for the lost children and doing everything possible to bring them home safely. If this is God’s agenda, then it is the work of the church. We are called to seek out the lost, rejoice in finding them and do all we can to bring them home safely into their Father’s arms.

The “vision” and “values” statements of our parish are simply that everyone experience being embraced in the Good Shepherd’s arms. We do this first through the Eucharist and our caring for each and every person who joins us. We also do this through the various ministries of this parish which seek to gently lead everyone to Christ’s embrace. We do this in our daily lives when we open our hearts to the needs of our brothers and sisters, interacting with them in ways that give life, comfort and peace.

May each of you experience this warm welcome by our God and be instruments of His welcome in our world!

With love,

Fr. Tom
