21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

My Dear St. Bernadette Family,

In our Alleluia verse Jesus declares “I am the way, the truth and the life.” In Isaiah, God declares through the prophet “I come to gather the nations.” Connecting our readings, we know that Jesus is the way we are all connected and the path to peace and unity upon the earth.

He speaks of the narrow door that we must enter. To get through a narrow door we must either be trim or strong.  Both apply to that spiritual door he is leading us through. Slim and strong are the target of those who exercise regularly. So our Spiritual exercises must be intense and regular for us to manage that door.

This time of year we begin to anticipate the Fall. Back to school time for the kids and continued religious education for the whole family. Each of us needs a plan, a work-out schedule for this Fall, to get ourselves back into shape. A Bible Study, Catechetical School, time spent in FORMED.org, a book from our library are a few possible ways to grow in our understanding of the faith.  Time in prayer, adoration, liturgies, the Scripture are a few more to exercise our spiritual muscles.

Let’s get into shape together. It is always better to exercise with a partner or a coach. We have both here for you.

With love,
Fr. Tom
