18th Sunday in Ordinary Time

My Dear St. Bernadette Family,

You may recall that last week we had the story of the “Multiplication of the Loaves and the Fishes” for the gospel. This was from the Gospel of John. We will follow-up with John’s gospel for the next four weeks in what is called “The Bread of Life Discourse.” Jesus will be speaking to us about himself as real food and real drink and inviting us to take and eat.

At St. Bernadette Parish we will use this time to review our understanding of the Mass. We gather each week to do as Jesus told us when He said: “Do this in memory of me.” We will look at what we do and why we do it. We will see the foundation of the Mass in the Scriptures. We will look at how we can participate more fully. We will try to answer any questions you may have (please share them with me).

The more we understand the Eucharist and the better we develop our skills of participation, the more powerful will be our experience of the presence of Christ. This experience offers us healing, hope and peace. This experience also change us and impels us to share the Good News.

Let’s work real hard this month on our appreciation of this beautiful and powerful gift Jesus gives to us through the church.

With love,

Fr. Tom
